At New Student Orientation (NSO) you will register for your first year of classes and gain knowledge of campus resources, financial aid and much more! We look forward to welcoming you to Black Hills State University.

During your New Student Orientation (NSO) day, you will register for your first year of classes and prepare to learn and live at Black Hills State University. You will have the opportunity to: tour your residence hall, meet with staff from Financial Aid, meet other new students, purchase your parking permit and more.
  • NSO is an in-person event that takes place on the main BHSU campus - located in Spearfish, South Dakota.
  • Parents/Guests are welcome to attend NSO day, but are not required to. Some portions of the day will divide students and parents into separate sessions. Parent/Guest attendance is wholly optional , and up to each family's preference.
  • All Student attendees should plan to be present from approximately 8:30am-3:00pm Mountain Time.

Lunch Pricing & Options
Lunch will be served in the Hive and available for purchase in the way that’s most convenient for you:
  • Prepaid Lunch Tickets: $12 per person (online purchase, immediately following this form)
  • Purchased Day-Of event: $15 per person, purchased at the dining hall entrance.
    • NOTE: the on-campus dining hall is cashless, and only accepts card, phone app or other contactless payment methods.
“The Hive” is our campus dining hall, located in the BHSU Student Union. The Hive is an all-you-care-to-eat style dining hall featuring multiple daily feature options, a fresh salad bar and deli, and a dessert bar.
